PM to personally acknowledge CSR donations for "Swachh Bharat"!

To give more financial teeth to his pet Swachh Bharat Mission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will personally acknowledge all donations over Rs 20 crore by companies and Rs 1 crore by individual citizens to the Swachh Bharat Kosh.

To felicitate this the government on Tuesday launched the Swachh Bharat Kosh (fund) for channelisation of philanthropic contributions and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds towards the cause.

The guidelines issued by the finance ministry has announced that contributions between Rs 10 crore to Rs 20 crore by Indian companies and between Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore by individuals would be personally acknowledged by finance minister Arun Jaitley. “The Kosh will be used to achieve the objective of improving cleanliness levels in rural and urban areas, including in schools. It may also be enabled to bring out innovative or unique projects and girl toilets will be the priority area to start with,” the guidelines said. Using the donations, the fund will finance activities such as construction of new toilets as well as repair and renovation of dysfunctional toilets in rural areas, urban areas, elementary, secondary and senior secondary government schools, aanganwaadis. They would also be used for constructing water lines to the toilets, training and skill development to maintain hygiene in the toilets as well as other activities to improve sanitation.
